How to Wash Lettuce
Preparing your lettuce for salad may seem silly, but it will pay off I promise. We put lots of effort into all the other component of a salad, so why not care about our lettuce also?
tips:
First off, we need to start by cleaning our lettuce. To clean my lettuce I put it into a bowl and run cold water over it. This will loosen the dirt from the lettuce and allow it to sink to the bottom. Use your fingers to move the lettuce around a bit and ensure all the dirt falls away. Make sure to take your lettuce out of the bowl before dumping out the dirty water--you don’t want all the dirt you just washed off to attach back onto your lettuce. Depending on how dirty your lettuce is, feel free to repeat this process again.
Once our lettuce is all clean, we need to DRY it. Soggy wet lettuce in a salad is the worst of all time, remember that oil and water don’t mix, so if you try to dress your lettuce while it’s wet, the dressing will slide right off. Not fun. You can either pat it dry with paper towels or use a salad spinner, which let me tell you, is a total game changer. Seriously.
Last but NOT least, after my lettuce is dried in the bowl I salt my lettuce. Yes, I SALT my lettuce. I do this because salt actually opens up the cell structure of the lettuce, awakening it’s flavor, and actually making it taste more like lettuce.
steps:
Place your lettuce into a bowl and run cold water over it to release dirt. Repeat until lettuce is clean.
Dry your lettuce using a salad spinner or paper towels
Salt your lettuce before you dress it to make your lettuce taste more like lettuce
Enjoy!
So there you have it. The lettuce is ready to rock and your salad just got even better. You’re welcome.
